The Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases was organized in July 1998 by several doctors who were interested in the systematic study of intestinal diseases. In the beginning, it started with the name of ‘IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) research group,’ and held 4 meetings to study IBD in Korea. With the growing interest from clinicians and increase for the need of systematic research for IBD and intestinal diseases, it was reorganized in 1999 as the ‘Intestine Research Group’ and held 6 fruitful conferences to share knowledge and information through symposiums and workshops for doctors interested in intestinal diseases. As the ‘Intestine Research Group’ grew in scope and gathered a variety of opinions, it led the group to organize the ‘Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases' in order to actively cope with the diversities which the new era requires.
Since then, KASID has been working to facilitate the introduction of systematic approaches and new knowledge for the ever increasing number of patients with IBD and intestinal diseases, as well as for the study of the characteristics of Korean patients who differ from those of Western patients through the exchange of various research projects nationwide. In addition, the KASID has been active in communication and education for patients and the general public to gain an understanding of intestinal diseases and how to cure them.
